COMPETITIONS

                   There is a wide selection of competitions for anyone to enter.

They are displayed and judged on the day of the show.

The following is a list of all the classes.

 

HOW TO ENTER

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE IN BY FRIDAY 25th JULY

You can enter in person at Cherington Village Hall

between 7-8 pm on Tuesday 22nd July

Online at www.cheringtonshow.com

By e-mail to cheringtonshow@gmail.com

Please state your name and the class or classes you are entering,

For children’s classes please add the age of the child.

Please bring your exhibits to the village hall:

Between 11 am and 4 pm on Saturday 26th July or

Between 8 am and 9.30 am on Sunday 27th July

Judging takes place at 10 am

No exhibits to be removed before 4.30 pm.

 

COMPETITION RULES

The decision of the Committee is final and any disputes can be made to the Committee before 12.30pm at the Treasurers Table at Coxes Farm

No responsibility will be taken by the Committee for loss or damage during the show

Only one entry per person per class

Any prize may be reduced at the Judge’s discretion

No exhibit to be entered that has been entered in a competition before.

Prize money can be collected from the Treasurer at Coxes Farm between 3-4pm

SECTION A AND B – All exhibits must be grown by the exhibitor in their garden or made by the exhibitor 

 

HORTICULTURAL CLASSES

Section A - Young Gardeners

(under 15 yrs grown by exhibitor)

1. A small container of wildflowers (can be grown or picked)

2. Miniature flower garden on a plate

3. Best homegrown vegetable

4. Longest runner bean

5. Character made from fruit and/or vegetables

Section - B Gardeners

6. 5 French Beans

7. 5 Runner Beans

8. 3 Beetroots with roots /15 cm tops

9. 2 Cabbages

10. 3 Carrots with roots /tops trimmed 10 cm

11. 3 Courgettes 4”-6” with flowers if possible

12. 2 Lettuce

13. 5 Onions grown from sets with 10 cm tops

14. Parsley (bunch)

15. 5 Garden Peas in pods

16. 5 Potatoes

17. 12 Radishes

18. 12 Raspberries

19. 12 Strawberries

20. 5 Shallots

21. 3 Gladioli stems

22. 3 Hydrangea heads, same variety

23. Vase of Annuals, 3 distinct varieties24. 3 Dahlias in a Vase

25. 3 Hosta leaves in one container

26. Perennial Phlox

27. 5 HT Roses

28. 3 Spray Roses (not HT) any variety

29. Sweet Peas, 5 stems

30. 2 specimen roses, with own foliage

31. Pot Plant with best foliage

32. Pot Plant with best flowers

33. 6 eggs, any colour, from own flock

34. A basket of mixed vegetables (max size 60cm x 30cm)

35. Garlic. 3 heads/this season/tops trimmed to 3” on a plate

36. Blackcurrants, 5 sprays

37. Redcurrants, 5 sprays

38. Gooseberries x 12

Section C - Flower Arranging

39. Summer Hedgerow- can include foliage, flowers, seeds, grasses

40. An arrangement using scooped out fruit or vegetable as a container

41. Arrangement reflecting ‘tall and elegant’

42. A Buttonhole

Section - D Cookery

43. A jar of Marmalade

44. A jar of Jam

45. A jar of Chutney (please state flavour)

A children’s workshop will be held on Tuesday 15th July

in Cherington Village Hall from 2.00pm – 5.00 pm

to help with the competitions in Section F.

COMPETITION CUPS

The Perpetual Challenge Cup will be awarded to the exhibitor with the most

points in Horticulture

The Mabberley Cup will be awarded for the best exhibit in Horticulture

The Amy Wood Cup will be awarded for the best exhibit in Flower Arranging

A Cup will be awarded for the best exhibit in Children’s Cookery

The Eileen Ind Cup will be awarded for the best exhibit in Children’s Handicrafts

A cup in memory of Charles Rymer will be awarded for the best exhibit in Photography.
